CCR-1 District Guidance
Guidance and Counseling is an integral part of the total educational program. It is a comprehensive program that includes sequential activities kindergarten through grade 12. Those activities are organized and implemented by certified school counselors. The program is designed to address the needs of all students by helping them to acquire competencies academically, career planning and exploration and personal/social development.
Elementary Counselors: assist students to learn the skills and attitudes necessary to be successful learners. With students, they emphasize that the classroom is the first workplace and communication, decision-making, inter-personal and career awareness skills are vitally important to their success.
Middle School Counselors: work with students to address their career, personal-social, and educational needs and concerns. They provide students with expanded career awareness and career exploration activities to assist them in the development and utilizations of short- and long-range education and career plans.
High School Counselors: work with students in acquiring guidance competencies that form the foundation for their next steps educationally and occupationally. They assist students to develop realistic education and career plans based on a clear understanding of themselves, their needs, interests, skills and the realities and possibilities of the worlds of education and work.
School Counselors: foster excellence by helping all students achieve their potential. They promote excellence through their work in four program areas:
Classroom presentations and large-group activities such as career days and college nights to help students learn coping skills, career planning and decision-making skills, and to plan for the future.
Individual student planning for academic and career success through the development of short-term and long-range education and career plans.
Individual and small group counseling, consultation, and referral, related to helping students with personal goals and concerns, and with educational progress.
Management activities to support the guidance program and other school programs.
