Math education is constantly changing due to technology and other real-world aspects. Thanks to the "No Child Left Behind" and "Common Core" State Standards, many objectives are being taught at lower grades than previously. While skill drills are important, more emphasis is being placed on problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Don't be surprised if your 3rd grader figures out when those two trains collide!
